A WARP (Withdrawal Agreement Residence Permit)
A WARP (Withdrawal Agreement Residence Permit) is a specific category of French residence permit created exclusively for British nationals and their family members who were living in France before December 31, 2020
It is no longer possible to apply for a WARP residence permit*
*Except for spouses of existing WARP holders
5 year Warp residence permits will be expiring soon, however, renewal is straightforward
- Renew 2-3 months before you current card expires
- Check your local Prefecture procedures and complete your application: online, by post, or at the prefecture’s ticket office.
- Required documents: application form, passport, proof of address, 3 identity photos, your expiring residence permit, and any proof of changes to your situation (marriage, divorce, widowhood).
- Receive your receipt from the Prefecture
Collect your 10 year residence permit. Processing times vary by prefecture.
Since the UK left the European Union, British nationals without a WARP residence permit, are treated as third-country nationals, so travel and residence in France requires visas and permits.
Short visit
Visa not required for stays up to 90 days
Longer visit
Long stay visa (VLS-TS) is required for stays up to 1 year

The process involves: securing a Long-Stay Visa (VLS-TS) before leaving the UK, validating or renewing it once in France, and then applying for a residence permit
