The Entry/Exit System is currently not in operation.

The European Union’s Entry/Exit System (EES), initially planned for earlier implementation, is now scheduled for a phased launch starting in October 2025.

The European Union will inform about the specific start date of the EES several months prior to its launch.

This digital border management system will register non-EU nationals’ entries and exits across 29 European countries, replacing manual passport stamping with biometric data collection, including fingerprints and facial images.

Following the EES rollout, the European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS) is expected to become operational in the last quarter of 2026.

ETIAS will require visa-exempt non-EU travelers to obtain an online travel authorization before entering the EU.

These developments aim to enhance security and streamline border procedures within the Schengen Area.
