How to send a parcel from your own letterbox

For those living in France (especially in rural France where you often see your La Poste van) posting a parcel has been made easier; La Poste can now pick up packages of up to 5kg from your home. You can send packages to anywhere within the EU without going to a post office by organising collection from your own letterbox, provided that the package is able to fit into your letter box and weighs less than 5 kg.

The procedure is:

  1. Go to La Poste’s website and create an account using your name and email address
  2. On the page Envoyez votre Colissimo en ligne select “Depuis votre boîte aux lettres
  3. From the Mode d’envoi drop-down menu enter the information requested about the parcel’s weight and destination. This must be done before 11 pm on the night before you wish to send the parcel.
  4. Print off the label and stick it on your parcel
  5. Put the parcel in your letterbox before 08.00 hrs for collection during the day (postal workers have a master-key to access all regular post-boxes)
  6. Your postal worker will receive a notification that you have left a parcel to be collected

You can then track (suivi) the delivery in real time. Colissimo can guarantee delivery within 2 days in mainland France.

If sent within France, the service costs from 4.29 € up to 20.00 € depending on the delivery option you choose.

See here for more information on parcel dimensions and permitted weight.
