Grants available for electric cars

The procedures relating to bonus-ecologique (or eco-bonus) changed on 10th October 2023. Eligibility for grants now requires a minimum environmental score. This is part of the energy transition and the national “Green Industry” strategy. Up until now, only the gas emissions caused by the vehicle on the road were taken into account to qualify for this grant but now a more comprehensive assessment of the vehicle’s carbon footprint will also be included.

Grants can be between €5,000 and €6,000 depending on the type of vehicle with a potential extra payment of 2,000 euros for those on a modest income. In addition to this there is also a prime à la conversion / conversion premium which can be up to 3,000 euros and can be combined with the eco- bonus.

The list of vehicles eligible for this environmental score is due to be published on 15 December 2023 by the French Environment and Energy Management Agency (Ademe).
