In a bid to encourage people to have their broken electrical and electronic equipment repaired rather than replaced, from the 1st January 2024 the Ministry of Ecology is increasing the value of bonuses available for goods no longer covered by a guarantee. For some items, such as televisions and washing machines, this aid has doubled. A few products have a minimum qualifying cost of repair – for example from 1st January the bill for repairing a laptop must be at least 150 euros to be eligible for the bonus (compared to the current minimum threshold of €180) while Printers will also qualify as long as the bill is in excess of 150 €.
From 1st January 2024 the bonus for repairing televisions will increase from 30 € to 60 € whereas washing machines, dishwashers and tumble dryers will all see an increase from 25 € to 50 €. Vacuum cleaner repairs will see a bigger increase from 15 € to 40 €. Other appliances including laptops, drones, cookers and kettles will see an increase of 5 € on the aid available at present.
From 1st January additional products such as electric shavers, epilators, microwave ovens, and mobile air conditioners will also become eligible for the repair bonus.
The bonus will be deducted directly from your repair bill as long as the fault is not due to improper use and the repairs are carried out by an approved professional repairer, either by taking the items to their shop/workshop or having the repairs carried out at your home. From 1st February 2024 you will be able to send your items off to a participating professional to be repaired remotely.
Please note that the bonus only applies to products which are distributed in France and which comply with French regulations. Only functional repairs will qualify (e.g.: a dent in a fridge door or broken accessories which don’t affect the performance of the appliance are not eligible).
