Online first class post

After first class stamps (timbres rouges) were discontinued at the beginning of this year, a new online service called “e-lettre rouge” (red e-letter) was introduced.

This allows you to scan and send your mail online, tracked or untracked, in the same way as a standard letter, for next day delivery in France (excluding weekends and public holidays). All letters/mail sent online before 20.00 hrs will be sent out from the next day. La Poste receives your letter online, prints it at a branch closest to the destination and an automated service puts it in an envelope and sends it on.

From October this service has been extended to include the option of asking your local postman/woman to scan your documents at your home and send them on to La Poste as a “e-lettre rouge” on your behalf. To access this service call 3631 to make arrangements or if you live in a rural area and know your local postie you can ask them personally.

Another service includes a ‘Service Plus’ which enables tracking and collection of the mail from your personal letterbox. Second class stamps (Timbres verts) can continue to be purchased either online or at the post office or at a tabac as before.
